This paper will explore the contestation among The Islamic Subaltern communities and Islamic mainstream communities. I will discuss on two important things. First, this paper will identify the forms of resistance of Jemaat Ahmadiyah Indonesia (JAI) Cabang Yogyakarta. Second, how the Yogyakarta city—as well as a tolerance city—fasilitating the contestation’s pattern both two Islamic communities. Based on the case study, I found that the JAI Yogyakarta mobilizing their external’s intelectual network as a mode of resistance facing the Islamic mainstream communities.
